  • KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON LOTS 1,3,4,13,29
  • 21 SONS OF KINGDOM & KLOONEY INCLUDED IN THE SALE
  • 65 BULLS ON OFFER

Witherswood Angus, based in Taminick (via Glenrowan) in the Warby Ranges, Victoria and former home to Australia’s most expensive Angus bull Kingdom K35 is expecting good attendance to their final ever bull sale, on Tuesday 19th March at 1.00pm on site.

Witherswood’s Beef Day in late January attracted a discerning crowd to see what will be on offer at the sale. If the Beef Day numbers are any indication of attendance, the scene is set for another strong sale day, as attendees take advantage of the last ever opportunity to access some of Australia’s best Angus genetics.

After 25 years in the industry, John and Joan Woodruff are ‘shutting the stockyard gate’ at Witherswood Angus for the final time, following the complete dispersal of their herd.

Both now in their early 80s, John and Joan have dedicated almost three decades of their life to developing the best bloodlines in Australia, most notably when Witherswood joined a consortium to buy Millah Murrah Kingdom K35 for $150,000, the most ever paid for an Angus bull in Australia.

Also purchased at the same auction by the Witherswood consortium was Millah Murrah Klooney K42 for $80,000, the fifth highest ever recorded for an Australian Angus bull at the time.

The upcoming sale will include 18 sons of Kingdom and 3 sons of Klooney. These sons of the prized bulls will all feature some of the premium characteristics that saw the sires reach such high prices.

The pick of the bunch is Lot 3, a large framed Reality bull with above average fertility and fats.

Also Lot 4, who is a “chip off the old block” when you compare how he looks to Kingdom K35. It is a very compelling message regarding Kingdom’s ability to transmit his superb structure and phenotype.

In commenting on the sale, John Woodruff, founder and owner of Witherswood Angus, said:

“Our genetic base is second to none. Our foundation cows were purchased from Booroomoka Angus over 20 years ago. We were one of the first Victorian breeders to purchase from the very successful Millah Murrah Angus in NSW, and we also have Te Mania as well.

“These genetics, the best in the country, are all through our herd.

“Kingdom and Klooney have developed into industry leading sires, and this sale presents a great opportunity to buy into the Witherswood method of success for the final time, and purchase a son of Kingdom or Klooney, or from one of our other quality bulls.”

The onsite property bull sale will see Witherswood offer 65 prized bulls, ranging from around 18-20 months old.

In commenting on the 19th March onsite sale, Ian Peake, Stud Manager at Witherswood, said:

“We’ve got bulls here that will be around for a long time to come, and the biggest bonus will be their progeny.

“Sires represented in the year’s draft include Millah Murrah Kingdom and Klooney, Matauri Reality, a couple of Identitys, which have some extra muscle, and a couple of good Innovations.”

The sale will be held on Tuesday, 19th March 2019, at 1pm at the Witherswood farm, 1185 Glenrowan Boweya Road, Taminick via Glenrowan.

ABOUT THE RECORD BREAKING ANGUS BULL

STOP PRESS – RECORD BREAKING BULL SALE $150,000

September 2015

Kingdom K35

Syndicate owners of the new record breaking bull Millah Murrah Kingdom K35 are Witherswood Angus principals John and Joan Woodruff, Glenrowan North East Victoria, Gilmandyke Angus Orange NSW, Jim and Jackie Wedge, Ascot Angus Warwick Queensland and ABS Australia. All three studs have been strong supporters of Millah Murrah genetics for many years.
The bull is an embryo transfer bred calf by New Zealand-bred Hingaia 469 from Millah Murrah Flower G41. His sire is Ancient Genetics by Angus breed standards, being a 1986 calf, but offering an important outcross to the breed.

John Woodruff says, “K35 shows a lot of old fashioned traits which are rare to find in today’s Angus breed having depth and thickness, good bone, strong head and lovely soft skin and will be a ‘breed changer’ for the industry. It is rare to find a bull so even and correct in structure – ‘a perfect package’. Semen is available through ABS Australia.

The sale also offered another opportunity for the syndicate to purchase lot 12 Millah Murrah Klooney K42, and Witherswood, Gilmandyke and West Australian Cherylton Park Angus, paid $80,000 to secure the bull.
